MORE THAN A MOCK VOTE

Kids Voting Mecklenburg is a non-partisan nonprofit (501c3) program educating Charlotte-area elementary, middle and high school students about civic engagement, life skills, leadership and government through an effective combination of standards-based civics education, authentic election experiences, volunteering and service learning, and opportunities for students to learn about and get involved in government and the community.

Over 100,000 students participated in Kids Voting Mecklenburg activities in 2008. Kids Voting impacts everyone in the Charlotte area. The fun and meaningful program:

  • Prepares children and youth for a lifetime of active civic engagement
  • Develops lifelong habits of informed voting and civic involvement
  • Supports K-12 academic achievement, especially among at-risk students
  • Equips students with important 21st century skills with multiple life applications including decision making, critical thinking, leadership and civic literacy
  • Narrows gaps by increasing learning opportunities

Kids Voting Mecklenburg is a part of Kids Voting USA, a national leader in civic education. KVUSA is a member of America Forward, a coalition of more than 70 results-oriented, entrepreneurial nonprofit organizations that are working in communities across the country to solve some of the most pressing problems facing our nation.
