EDUCATING STUDENTS, BUILDING LEADERS
Kids Voting Mecklenburg is now
GenerationNation!
The education-focused nonprofit (501c3)
organization, founded in 1992, changed its name in December 2011 to better
reflect the wide range of educational tools and learning opportunities it
provides, and envisions, to positively impact K-12 students in the Charlotte
area.
Programs educate and engage students in government, leadership
and civic life. Current initiatives of GenerationNation include K-12 civic
education and teacher training, Youth Civics, Youth Voice-Leadership Alliance
and the Kids Voting Mecklenburg election.
Programs and resources:
-
Help students in school, supporting K-12
goals in civics, history and language arts
-
Develop effective citizens and leaders
-
Increase civic literacy - understanding
government, the roles of citizens and leaders, and the impacts
of issues, policies and decisions on our schools, city, state,
country and world - among students and the adults around them
Why does it matter?
- Students need to know how our governments and communities work to
succeed in school, graduate and become effective citizens and leaders
- Civic education helps students to achieve, engage and lead
- All students need civic learning opportunities - but many face gaps
